I have found over the years that the stories that make me smile the most, feel the warmest, and sometimes almost bring a tear to my eye, are the stories about how people first discover Phish, or how they recall that one concert that got them 'hooked', that one magical moment, when you realize that you have discovered the best band on the planet, and that your life would never be the same from then on :) We all have one, and everyone's is uniquely different from everyone elses'.
After an initial posting of this same message to rec.music.phish, the response was overwhelming, but I know there are more of you out there who also have wonderful stories to share. So if you'd like to contribute to the collection, I would be honored.
When you have some free time, e mail me your story about how you got into Phish, how you got 'hooked'.
I will attempt to keep everyone up to date on how this project is going via this page and rec.music.phish.
Thanks, and I look forward to reading your stories.
My plan is to include all of these stories in a book for all to enjoy. Well, that all may come true as I am several steps closer to this goal. I have been in contact with Dionysian (Phish management) about the project. Something that was briefly discussed was the possibility of donating a percentage of profits from the sale of this book to a charity of Phish's choice, but that has not been finalized in any way yet, it is just something I would like to do.
Don't get the wrong idea, this project is in its beginning stages, no publisher has picked the book up yet...that's my next step.
Well, without getting too long winded, I have decided that I am going to include the best (subjective, I realize) 50 stories that I receive. So keep sending those stories. And tell anyone else who may be interested. This is not soley for us netters, it is just the easiest way for me to spread the word.
So, that all being said, I am leaving for Boulder in a week, and plan on getting back into this book full swing once I'm out there. You see, I don't ski (I'm afraid of heights...you ain't getting me on one of those ski lifts). So my plan is, while all of my friends are off skiing, I'll lock myself in my apartment and write!
So if you haven't sent me your story yet, what are you waiting for!?!
My next step will be to put together a proposal for the publishers. I have abosolutely no experience in this area, so it may take a while. But I'll keep ya posted!
Hope to hear from you all -Brother Hal
